Surrounded by the Los Padres National Forest on three sides, the private 44 acre Gridley Ranch can trace its origins to a land grant consigned to Samuel Gridley by President Benjamin Harrison in 1892 to supply water to Ojai.
Today the gate opens onto a pasture that stretches up to meet the old barn, guest cottage, terraced gardens, handcrafted rock walls and then crowned by a family orchard with orange, pixie tangerine, meyer lemon, plum and nectarine trees. Tucked in the middle is an 1,850 square foot house with saltillo tile throughout. There are 2 native stone fireplaces, one in the living room, one in the library. These plus the kitchen, dining, master bed and bath, guest bed and bath open via French doors to a stone patio which wraps around the house. Stepping down from it are five separate rock patios, a guest house , a game room, two outdoor showers and two car carport for hatching plans, lolling about or all of the above.
Each setting provides unexpected views of the property itself, the valley below and the mountains that encircle it. With a fire pit, outdoor barbecue, pergola, arbors and large open spaces. There are so many possibilities to enjoy this place by oneself or 150 of your closest friends. It could be a photo shoot, meeting or reunion. The ranch is a wonderful preserve for doing many things, but perhaps most importantly, it is a great place for doing nothing.....for a while.
